Lake Stevens Park Board elects chair and vice chair, approves amended minutes and excuses absent member

Park Board member Brian was elected chair and Park Board member Tina was elected vice chair at the Lake Stevens Park Board meeting on Jan. 25. The board also voted to excuse absent board member Colton and approved the Nov. 18, 2024 minutes with a correction to a member name.

The votes were taken by voice during the meeting. A motion to excuse Colton passed on a voice vote; a subsequent motion to approve Brian as chair and Tina as vice chair also passed by voice vote. Board members then moved to approve the Nov. 18 minutes as amended and that motion passed.

The actions complete routine board organization for the coming year and set the roster for representation at the board’s scheduled joint meeting with the City Council planned for Jan. 28. The board discussed procedure for nominations and accepted the single nominations for each office after a brief period for additional nominations; no contesting nominations were raised.

Board members asked procedural questions about how to handle nominations and simultaneous motions; staff explained options for closing nominations and voting. The minutes correction noted by a board member — a spelling correction to that member’s name in the draft minutes — was accepted before the vote to approve the minutes.

The organizational votes were handled as part of the meeting’s opening business and did not include roll-call tallies in the public record beyond the board’s recorded “aye” responses on voice votes. No substantive policy or budget decisions were made in these motions.

The meeting then moved to scheduled discussion items, including the parks department’s 2025 budget and capital projects update.
