City finalizing park signage package; two parks receive Lushootseed‑based names

Commissioners were briefed on the results of an internal group’s naming work. Staff said Ria Vista (name in draft materials) will be rendered as Snowberry for signage; the two “toll” parks will be named Two Moon Park North and Two Moon Park South. Leah said the commission had consulted Coast Salish storytelling materials and is coordinating with tribal representatives to ensure proper transliteration and pronunciation of Lushootseed names. Staff indicated signs will include both the Lushootseed renderings and English names where appropriate.
No formal action was taken; staff said they will circulate the draft signage package and an estimate to the commission for review and asked for final input before production and spring installation.
