Council adopts advisory committee rule changes, makes appointments and introduces new police services director

The Santa Fe Springs City Council adopted a resolution amending rules for advisory committees and establishing rules for a citizens oversight committee for Measure SFS, City Manager Renee Bovidio said as staff presented the item.
"The report is before you, mayor and council," Bovidio said. The council member who moved the resolution was not named on the record; the motion was seconded and the council voted unanimously, "Aye," to adopt the amendments.
City Manager Bovidio and council members said the changes aim to provide flexibility for advisory committee members and to clarify absence/medical‑excuse provisions so volunteers are not removed for short‑term situations. The amendments are intended to align committee practices with available staff resources and to improve committee effectiveness, staff said.
Following the rule amendments, the council proceeded with appointments to city commissions, advisory committees and external agency seats. Council members individually stated who they intended to retain or replace on panels including Historical, Family and Human Services, Heritage Arts, Parks and Recreation, Planning, Senior Advisory and Traffic committees. A motion to confirm the appointments passed unanimously.
The council pulled agenda item 9 for a future meeting; the consent calendar (items 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10) was approved by motion and unanimous vote.
City Manager Renee Bovidio introduced Arlene Salazar as the city's new Police Services Director and read her biography, noting more than 30 years in municipal government and senior management roles. "It's been an amazing 5th day today, for the city of Santa Fe Springs," Salazar said at the lectern, thanking the council and saying she looks forward to meeting residents and staff.
No roll call votes with negative tallies were recorded in the meeting minutes for these items; the transcript records unanimous "Aye" votes on the motions reported during the meeting.
