Wyoming Senate adopts temporary rules, confirms staff and standing committees for 68th Legislature

The Wyoming Senate on the opening day of the 68th Legislature adopted the permanent senate and joint rules of the 67th Legislature to serve temporarily for the 68th and approved a slate of Senate employees and standing committee assignments.
Senators voted by voice to adopt the rules and to approve a roster of staff read into the record by the reading clerk. The motion to adopt the 67th Legislature rules as temporary rules was presented and approved by voice vote. The reading clerk then recited a list of employees and positions; the Senate approved that list by voice vote.
Adopting the rules provides an immediate procedural framework so the Senate may conduct its business while permanent rules for the 68th Legislature are finalized. The employee list read into the record included position titles such as chief clerk and multiple clerks, secretaries to standing committees, doormen, pages and a chaplain.
The reading clerk read the names of standing committee chairs and memberships after which the president asked whether there were objections. There were none; the Senate confirmed the standing committees "as read." The majority floor leader then moved that the Senate notify the House of Representatives and the governor that the Senate is duly organized; both motions passed by voice vote. Senators also approved arrangements to hear the governor's messages the following day.
Procedurally, the actions set the Senate's temporary operating rules, provided staff authority to support chamber operations, and fixed committee rosters for assignment of bills to committees. The body adjourned to reconvene the next day.

The Senate also instructed its clerk to communicate its organizational status to the House and governor and scheduled a joint address by the governor for the next day. With those items complete, the Senate adjourned until its next session time.
