The Goshen Board of Education accepted the results of a Jan. 14 special district referendum to convey a district-owned parcel on Erie Street to the Village of Goshen.
Superintendent Doctor Coates reported that the referendum passed by a margin of 578 yes votes to 15 no votes. "I'm pleased to report that the referendum passed to transfer the ownership of the village, the district property over to the village by a margin of 578 yes votes to 15 no votes," Coates said during his superintendent report at the Jan. 15 meeting.
Coates told the board that transferring property from one public corporation (the school district) to another (the village) is a comparatively straightforward legal process and that district legal counsel had already begun coordination with village counsel to transfer title and enable the village to begin planning and work on a village park.
The board then passed a resolution accepting the special district meeting results and authorizing the conveyance to move forward. The motion to accept the results was recorded during the Jan. 15 business meeting and approved by voice vote of members present.
The district said it will proceed with the legal steps required to transfer title and that the village is expected to prepare plans for park development after title transfer is complete.
