Council appoints two Cumberland Foreside residents to Comprehensive Plan Committee; Ron Kopp Jr. sworn in

The Cumberland Town Council on Jan. 13 appointed Caitlin Byers and Nancy McBrady to the Comprehensive Plan Committee to represent Cumberland Foreside, and later named two council liaisons to the committee.

Mike (chair of the nominating committee) told the council two candidates had applied for the Foreside seats; Councilor Magoon had asked the nominating group to extend the application period so each sector of town would be represented. A motion to appoint Caitlin Byers and Nancy McBrady carried unanimously.

Separately, the council appointed Councilors Veil and Filson as the two council liaisons to the Comprehensive Plan Committee. The council discussed recusal and continuity: members who step off the council would continue in a liaison role until the comp-plan work concludes if needed. The motion to appoint the liaisons passed unanimously.

Earlier in the meeting, Jen (the town clerk) administered the oath of office to Ron Kopp Jr., who swore to support the U.S. and state constitutions and to faithfully discharge the duties of a Cumberland Town Council member for a six-month term.

Why this matters: filling committee seats and establishing council liaisons determines representation for the multi-year comprehensive plan update, which will guide future land-use and zoning discussions. The sworn-in councilor increases the council’s membership as the town moves into budget season and committee work.

All appointments were uncontested and carried by unanimous voice votes as recorded at the meeting.
