Fort Atkinson manager reports police LEEDA award, United Way fundraising and election calendar

City Manager Hausman reported multiple operational updates to the Fort Atkinson City Council on Jan. 7, 2025, including a law-enforcement leadership training recognition, local fundraising results, a business-competition deadline and staffing and election timelines.
The manager said the Fort Atkinson Police Department command staff completed the Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA) trilogy leadership series and earned the LEEDA Trilogy Award. "I want to congratulate Chief Bump, Lieutenants Lindsay, Hefty, and Miller for being leaders of one of the few law enforcement agencies in the entire United States to achieve that recognition," Hausman said.
Hausman told the council the city completed its 2024 workplace campaign for the United Way of Jefferson and North Walworth Counties. The city co-hosted a bingo event at McGrath's that raised $3,455 and collected $779 in payroll pledges, for a combined total of $4,234.
On local economic development, Hausman said the City, the Chamber of Commerce and Enactus at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater are encouraging entrepreneurs to apply to the Boost Fort Atkinson Business Competition; applications are being accepted through Jan. 24, 2025, and the selected business will receive free downtown rent for one year. Four educational workshops tied to the program begin on Feb. 6, 2025.
Personnel and operations updates included a promotion: Jacob Feeney was promoted from wastewater specialist to wastewater maintenance technician and is expected to start his new role at the beginning of the year. Hausman thanked City Clerk Michelle Everett and her team for year-end work collecting property taxes, noting staff collected over $3,000,000 at the customer service window on New Year's Eve.
Hausman said staff met with a consultant last week to begin recruiting a new public works director, with a schedule and job announcement expected within about two weeks. He also reported the Fire Department held a promotion and honor ceremony Jan. 7 and that the city will issue a press release and photos later in the week.
On elections, Hausman said staff remained uncertain whether a statewide primary would occur Feb. 18, 2025, and that any requested changes to city meeting dates because of elections would be brought to the council at its Jan. 21 meeting. He confirmed the spring election is scheduled for April 1, 2025, and listed candidates who had gained ballot access: David Muscoher, Kyle Jackel, Nate Friedel and Peggy Huckaby.
Finally, Hausman said public works crews will pick up natural Christmas trees from the terrace during the week following the meeting and directed residents to the city website for details.
The manager closed his report and no formal action was taken on the items beyond reporting them to the council.
