Hatboro-Horsham board previews K–12 guidance plan, receives field-trip summary

Hatboro-Horsham School District staff presented a draft K–12 guidance plan at the Jan. 13 work session and told the board they will seek approval at the Jan. 27 legislative meeting.
The plan, developed over roughly two years, documents the district’s school counseling mission, program goals, curriculum alignment and delivery system and will be submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education after board approval, presenters said. Dawn Tucker, coordinator of special services, led the presentation alongside Kimberly Myers, director of special education and special services.
The draft emphasizes career-readiness and social-emotional learning across grades K–12, aligning counseling activities with the district’s comprehensive plan and with state standards. Tucker said the plan expands earlier practice—moving work such as resume and cover-letter development from 12th grade to 11th—and adds earlier career conversations beginning in middle school. She described advisory artifacts required by the state and listed Naviance-based inventories and classroom partnerships as examples of how students’ interests will be identified and developed.
Tucker and Myers said the plan incorporates the American School Counselor Association framework and noted that the document on the district website shows where state-required components appear. The presenters said the district has formed an advisory council that will meet twice yearly; the first meeting is scheduled for April 8.
Board members thanked the presenters and were told the final draft will be posted and presented for approval on Jan. 27, after which the district will upload the required materials to PDE. The presenters described the plan as a working document that may be updated before submission.
Also in the curriculum committee report, staff shared a field-trip report listing categorized trips from August through December 2024. The report excludes athletic events and internal trips to the Jarrett Nature Center and is available on BoardDocs, the presentation said.
The board had no public speakers on these items during the meeting. The curriculum committee closed after the presentation and moved on to the next committee reports.
