The Plan Commission recommended the Lakota Group as the village’s comprehensive planning consultant after reviewing four finalists and interviewing teams in December.
Staff said nine proposals were received in response to a late‑2024 RFP and that the list had been narrowed to four firms for interview. Commissioners said the finalists were all qualified but that Lakota Group’s proposal and interview — particularly its community engagement plan and proposed mix of national and local partners — best matched the commission’s emphasis on broad public outreach and creative engagement tools.
Commissioners praised Lakota’s proposed in‑street "walkshop" outreach, dedicated project website, digital engagement tools and ability to bring specialists for housing, economic development and urban design. Several members said they valued a consultant who would be proactive about reaching underrepresented groups and who presented a clear timeline and deliverables.
At the meeting a motion to recommend the Lakota Group to the Village Board passed on a voice vote. Commissioners asked staff to provide the Village Board with a copy of the Plan Commission’s discussion to help inform the board’s selection. Lauren (Community Development Director) said the Village Board will consider the commission’s recommendation during its upcoming meeting.
Ending: The Plan Commission’s recommendation moves the selection to the Village Board; staff will present the procurement record and the commission’s recommendation at the board meeting next week.
