Board notes start of legislative session, schedules forums and upcoming committee meetings

Board members and the Iowa City Association update noted the start of the state legislative session and encouraged the public to stay informed during the session.
Brady Schott, ICA president, said the legislative session opened that day and encouraged the public to remain engaged during the 100-plus-day session; he also invited the public to a League of Women Voters of Johnson County education forum on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Iowa City Senior Center from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The board noted a district legislative forum scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. in the back of the boardroom. Superintendent Degner reminded the public that the board’s legislative priorities were set earlier in the fall and will be updated during the session.
Directors also reviewed upcoming meetings: an Education Committee meeting Jan. 21 at Southeast Middle School, a Jan. 28 policy and governance meeting with a review of the 400 series (employee policies) and policy items 216.2 and 216.3 (board member development training and compensation/expenses). The demographer report previously targeted for the Jan. 28 meeting may be pushed to February.
