District says move to 214 will begin during spring break; first board meeting projected March 11

Waukegan Public Schools administrators told the Board of Education on Jan. 14 that departmental relocations into the district’s 214 building will begin during spring break and are expected to finish in July, with a projected first board meeting in the new boardroom on March 11, 2025.
Assistant administrators described which departments will have a footprint at 214: the wraparound center (lower level), welcome center, portions of the bilingual and outreach teams, security, transition and nutrition, human resources and payroll. Upper floors are slated for executive, legal, communications, area superintendents, accountability, equity and inclusion, data and assessments, teaching and learning, and FACE.
Administrators said custodial and security coverage will be extended starting March 1 to support the moves and that moves will be staged to maintain daily operations. The wraparound center in the lower level is already serving clients, staff said. Trustees asked about remaining construction items, final cost accounting and how vacant rooms in other district buildings will be repurposed once departments move.
District staff said they will provide a breakdown of final construction costs and a list of which offices and staff will be at each site. The board plans a facility tour before staff fully occupy the space.
