Josh, a service and volunteer leader for California Volunteers, said at a Pasadena disaster resource center that opened today that community volunteers and California Service Corps members are helping residents affected by recent Southern California disasters.
“Well, it's obviously, been horrific and horrendous, what we've experienced here in Southern California. But as our hearts break with the disaster, our spirits are being lifted by the fact that people are stepping up in such tremendous ways to serve each other and help each other,” Josh said. “I'm here right now at the Pasadena disaster resource center that just opened today. People are starting to come and get and sign up for the resources, to help them in the situation. We have our California service corps members, who are helping them.”
Josh added that volunteers from the community are assisting at the center. “We have volunteers from the community, and this community is is rallying in the way that California always does, which is by coming together,” he said.
The exchange came during a briefing at the Pasadena disaster resource center, where staff and volunteers are signing up residents for available resources. No formal actions, funding amounts or timelines were announced in the briefing; details about specific assistance programs and eligibility were not specified.
The center is a local point for immediate relief and matching residents with service and volunteer support. Organizers said community members are beginning to use the resource center and that California Service Corps personnel are deployed to assist on site. Further operational details, including hours, specific services and funding sources, were not provided in the remarks.
