A board member asked about progress on the idea of creating a separate body for adjustment, special exceptions and appeals. City staff said they are "still working on" the proposal and will look at how other jurisdictions structure similar tribunals. Staff listed recruitment of members as a complication given the city’s small size and said alternatives could include a five‑member board or a smaller three‑member tribunal depending on the city’s needs.
Members also asked whether any change could be completed by October, when some current terms begin to time out; staff said it was possible but dependent on other priorities and the need to update the land‑development regulations and appointment processes.
No formal action or vote to pursue the spin‑off was recorded at the workshop. The board adopted electronically distributed minutes for Nov. 12, 2024 (motion to adopt; second recorded; vote: aye by hand sign, no opposition).
