Linda Sell took the ceremonial oath of office as Sunnyvale vice mayor at the Jan. 14 council meeting and was sworn in before council, elected officials and members of the public.
Mayor Larry Klein administered the recognition; the ceremonial oath was administered by Harrison Sell, and Sell repeated the oath before the council and audience. Council and community leaders, including Santa Clara County Board President Otto Lee, praised outgoing Vice Mayor Murali Srinivasan for his service in 2024 and presented him with a certificate of appreciation.
Council members and residents who spoke at the meeting highlighted Srinivasan’s intergovernmental work and his leadership on technology and artificial intelligence policy at national forums. Srinivasan told the council he had mentored about 20 high-school students last year and described his year as vice mayor as “one of the best years of my life.”
Incoming Vice Mayor Sell thanked the council members who selected her and referenced her long record of volunteering in Sunnyvale. She told the audience she looked forward to serving the community during her term.
The ceremony included public remarks from community members who had worked with both incoming and outgoing vice mayors; several described the incoming vice mayor as an accessible local representative and thanked Srinivasan for his outreach and event attendance.
Ending: The council then moved on to the rest of its agenda; the ceremony did not require a formal council vote.
