The Glades County Board of County Commissioners on Jan. 6 approved hiring Paul Carlisle as county manager at an annual salary of $150,000 and authorized the chair to execute the employment agreement.
Commissioners and the county attorney discussed a pending issue with the Florida Retirement System (FRS) reporting and contribution rules. County staff said FRS indicated a county contribution rate of roughly 25.9 percent would apply to the position and that the county and counsel will pursue clarification and potential adjustments; the board approved the contract while retaining the option to revisit agreement terms if the retirement-contribution issue requires an amendment.
The county attorney said the agreement mirrors provisions from the prior manager’s contract where possible and that Carlisle and counsel had cooperated on language. Commissioners said they wanted an immediate start date and asked staff to work with the new manager to address pension- and benefit-related issues.
A motion to approve the salary and to authorize the chair to sign the employment agreement passed on a recorded voice vote; subsequent roll-call confirmation recorded the motion as carried.
