The Tunica County Board of Supervisors voted to adopt the Tunica County Economic Mobility and Opportunity five-year strategic plan after a presentation by county staff.
Mister Finke told the board Tunica County was one of 14 jurisdictions selected for the 2024 ICMA Economic Mobility and Opportunity cohort and had received a $20,000 grant to develop the plan. The plan targets workforce training-center enhancements, renewable energy and data center industry development, certified vendor programs, community-based food security, agricultural diversification, improved access to capital, and mixed-income housing solutions.
Finke outlined aspirational outcomes for 2029 including reduced poverty from 27.6 percent, an increase in median household income from about $38,000, higher workforce participation above 61 percent, improved educational attainment and affordable housing expansion. The board approved the plan by voice vote.
The plan anticipates partnerships among local education institutions, employers, community organizations, housing authorities, the Rural Partners Network, private grant partners, and regional economic development entities. Supervisors did not allocate a specific local appropriation at the meeting; the action was to adopt the strategic plan itself so staff and partners can proceed with implementation steps and grant use.
