Aldermen approve rezoning at Cool Springs after debate over building height

On Jan. 14 the Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted 6–1 to approve Ordinance 2024-10, rezoning about 20.90 acres near Cool Springs Boulevard to PD-65.3 (planned development district).
Board members and the applicant discussed the structure’s height during the meeting. One alderman said they remained concerned about the top-floor height despite the change, and another said a redesigned setback made the massing more tolerable and appropriate for the area. The applicant had revised the design to include a stepped setback at the top of the structure, which persuaded several members to support the rezoning.
The ordinance passed with Alderman Baggett recorded as the lone no vote. The vote record on the floor listed Alderman Barnhill, Alderman Blanton, Alderman Peterson, Alderman Burger, Alderman Brown and Vice Mayor Potts as voting yes; Alderman Baggett voted no.
