Boy Scouts update: Camp Crooked Creek draws thousands and scouts record thousands of service hours

Matt Nash, who represents the Boy Scouts' Lincoln Heritage Council, briefed the Shepherdsville City Council on scout activity and camp operations during the Jan. 13 meeting.
Nash said the council serves 64 counties from a Louisville center and operates Camp Crooked Creek in Bullitt County, which has been in operation since about 1987. He said the council now serves about 83,100 youth across the territory and is on its third consecutive year of membership growth.
Locally, Nash said Bullitt County has 422 scouts and adult leaders in 16 units and reported 13 youths earned Eagle Scout last year, producing roughly 2,310 hours of community service from those Eagle projects alone. Nash said year-round camp visitation totals more than 10,000 people and more than 2,000 people visit during peak summer weeks.
Council members thanked Nash and noted Scouts' community-service contributions, including upcoming Eagle projects that will add a park entrance sign and other local work. Nash said the council will recognize the mayor on Feb. 6 at a local fundraiser and that the council strives to remove financial barriers so families can participate in summer camp programs.
Council members and the mayor praised scouting as a long-running community partner and noted the organization brings regional visitation and economic activity to Bullitt County.
