Keith Martin, who identified himself as living at 10810 Elizabeth Lane, described a property originally taken by the city decades earlier to provide access. He said a gate across the path was recently closed with chain-link and tie wraps. Martin said he purchased and installed a hinged gate with a combination lock for neighbors to use, but later found a chain and lock on his replacement gate and was told—he said by rumor—that the district had secured the gate.
“I’m just hoping, looking for guidance on, is that gonna be an access we will get to continue to use or is it gonna stay permanently closed or or what the deal is?” Martin said. He said eight families routinely used the gate for walking and exercising and asked the board to clarify whether security concerns require permanent closure.
Board members did not make a decision on the spot; the item was recorded as a public comment and staff later noted neighborhood volunteers’ contributions to campus events. The resident said he understood if the closure is a security issue but asked for board guidance.
No formal action was recorded in the meeting on the access gate request; the matter remains open for staff follow-up.
