The Johnson County Solid Waste Management board re-elected its 2024 officer slate, approved two check registers and passed routine resolutions authorizing prepayment of regular claims and retaining legal and accounting services at existing rates during its Jan. 13, 2025 meeting.
Kevin Walls was retained as president after a motion and voice vote. Mark Myers was nominated and retained as vice president; Ron West was retained as secretary. The board recorded a quorum and approved the slate by voice vote.
The board approved a check register covering Nov. 16, 2024–Dec. 31, 2024 and a subsequent register covering Jan. 1–Jan. 10, 2025. Angela (Treasurer/financial officer) presented the figures as read into the record. The transcript contains inconsistent numeric formatting for the Nov.–Dec. register and the Jan. 1–10 register; the board approved both registers by voice vote after motions and seconds were made.
Legal counsel Lynn Gray presented four routine items: a nepotism/conflict-of-interest resolution (stating members do not supervise relatives as defined by statute), a resolution authorizing prepayment of routine claims between meetings, and agreements to retain legal and accounting services for 2025 at previously approved rates. Gray said the legal and accounting services rates had last been raised to $160 two years earlier. A motion to approve “Resolution 20, 2501” and “Resolution 20, 2502” (as stated in the transcript) and the legal and accounting service agreements passed by voice vote.
At the separate Board of Finance meeting that followed, members voted to retain First Merchants Bank as the district’s depository. A motion to adjourn concluded both meetings.
Ending: The board set its next regular meeting for March 10 at 2 p.m.; staff will present follow-up finance and procurement information at future meetings.
