The Acton Finance Committee discussed scheduling a facilitated, joint meeting with the Select Board to improve coordination between the two bodies. Committee members framed the meeting informally as a kind of "couples counseling" to address recurring disagreements around budgeting and the annual ALG (Allocation) process.
The committee agreed to offer the Select Board three date options: Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 25 (midday, after a DPW walkthrough); and Sunday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. The committee said it would propose a ranked list of potential facilitators and moderators, in this order: Bart Wendell; town moderator Joanne (last name not specified); Pat Clifford; and Bill Mullen.
"One of the things that we need to discuss is when are we going to have this therapy session with the moderator," the Finance Committee chair said during the meeting. The committee asked staff to provide meeting location options and to coordinate availability with the Select Board.
The committee emphasized that the session should preserve public meeting requirements and should not encroach on scheduled public listening sessions. The chair asked members to keep an open mind and to bring questions to the listening sessions as the town finalizes guidance for budget decisions.
Ending: The committee will present the three date options and the ranked moderator list to the Select Board and coordinate logistics and a public meeting location once the Select Board responds.
