LEXINGTON — At the Jan. 13 meeting the Davidson County Board of Commissioners reviewed applications for a vacancy on the Planning Committee for Aging Services and discussed a short list of preferred candidates, but deferred a formal appointment pending verification of term lengths and additional committee review.
County staff said six applications had been received. Alton, chair of the Planning Committee for Aging Services, told commissioners that he and Commissioner Wofford had discussed three recommended candidates: Rebecca Moser (first choice), Charlie Rowe (second choice) and Lesa Chesson (third choice). The board noted it currently had one opening and said staff would reconfirm appointment term lengths before returning with a final recommendation.
Staff described the committee’s role: it advises on Home and Community Care Block Grant funds (federal Older Americans Act funds routed through the state), reviews reports on services such as Meals on Wheels, and recommends spending priorities to the board. Staff said two local agencies — Davidson County Senior Services and the Life Center of Davidson County — receive the funding streams overseen by the committee.
A commissioner emphasized a preference for candidates with ties to Davidson County and experience working with seniors. The board directed staff and committee leadership to verify applicants’ availability and term details and agreed to bring the item back for action at a later meeting; staff said they planned to return the item for board action on Jan. 27.
No final appointment was made at the Jan. 13 meeting.
