Council OKs four-year license with Lincoln Flying Disc Club for city courses

The City Council approved a multiyear license agreement with the Lincoln Flying Disc Club for operation and scheduling of disc-golf play at Tiara Park, Roper Park, Bethany Park and Biles Slough Greenway through the end of 2028.
Denise Pierce of Lincoln Parks and Recreation told the council the new agreement replaces the prior one-year renewals with a four-year term (through 2028) and documents maintenance responsibilities between the club and Parks and Recreation. The agreement also establishes a restricted fund for the Biles Slough course: annual club deposits would remain available for upkeep if the club is not able to continue in the future, Pierce said.
Trenton Franz, president of the Lincoln Flying Disc Club, told council volunteers invested nearly $40,000 in private donations and fundraising and contributed about 2,000 volunteer hours last year. He said the club documented about 160,000 rounds played across city courses and that the Biel Slough course ranks among the top 100 courses worldwide and draws players from many states and countries; Franz said the club’s large annual tournament brings about $50,000 in estimated local economic impact.
The council approved the license by roll call. Council members praised the club’s public–private partnership model and the city’s recreational asset development.
Pierce and Franz noted the club has added a beginner course at Bethany Park with bilingual signage and a program connection to Vital Services for adults with developmental disabilities.
