District reports security upgrades and state visit to transportation building; rebuild discussed

Facilities staff updated the Laramie County School District #2 Board of Trustees at the Jan. 13 meeting on safety and maintenance projects and a state inspection of the district’s transportation building.

The facilities presenter said the district replaced exterior doors and improved card readers at Burns Junior-Senior High School, and upgraded fluorescent lighting to LEDs in a locker hallway. He also said new stage curtains were ordered for Pine Bluffs High School and small punch-list items remain on several projects.

The presenter said the Wyoming state education agency visited the district’s transportation building to evaluate non-educational space; the visit was requested by district staff. During discussion board members and staff said the current bus garage dates from mid-20th century construction and that the building may reach a point in the next three to five years where repairs could cost more than rebuilding. One board member said the district has land available for a rebuild and that the state conversation could lead to future funding or committee participation.

Board members asked for a tour of the nearly finished Pine Bluffs addition and for staff to coordinate follow-up with architect and construction contacts. No formal board action or funding decision was made during the facilities update.
