Bexley Historical Society updates council on caretaker-cottage repairs, plans tours and outreach

BEXLEY, Ohio — Representatives of the Bexley Historical Society updated the City Council on Jan. 14 about repairs to the caretaker cottage and new outreach plans, and they thanked the city for recent assistance.
Larry Hellman and Stacy Grossman said the society has completed or scheduled repairs to address electrical, plumbing and roofing issues in the cottage and plans landscape work that may be paid for or performed by volunteers. The society said the city’s staff—named in testimony as Ben, Mike Price and Ron Gold—helped the group with those repairs.
“We will now be proceeding with some landscape plans, for the outside,” Hellman said, adding that future interior work will be handled carefully because the cottage houses a historically sensitive collection.
The society said its Bexley Day presentations have generated more than 800 contact points through YouTube and in-person events. Hellman said the society is planning a March 23 tour focused on Bullard Park and the Geoffrey mansion and a Halloween tour in October; the group also plans to do school and summer-shelter outreach.
Councilmembers praised the society’s work. Miss Saad told presenters, “thank you to both of you guys. You're so involved in the city on in so many levels, and we appreciate you taking your passions to, to that place.” Mayor and other councilmembers also thanked Hellman and Grossman for their outreach.
