Wausau committee approves CSO 2 job description aimed at boosting animal-control coverage

The Wausau Human Resources Committee on Jan. 13 approved a job description and pay rate for a Community Service Officer 2 position intended to support the city’s animal control program.
Staff told the committee the CSO 2 role’s primary focus would be animal control. Nate Veil, a staff member present for the item, said the position is intended to provide more reliable coverage, including evenings and weekends. Veil said that under a three-person model of up to 20 hours per week per person, scheduling could be arranged so someone is available seven days a week with a priority for afternoons and weekends.
Committee members asked whether the positions would be year-round rather than seasonal; Veil confirmed the positions are intended to be 365-day roles and not only a summer program.
Motion by Tierney, second by Killian. The committee approved the CSO 2 job description and pay rate unanimously.
