Committee members voted to authorize the city to use Centus under a cooperative-purchasing arrangement that piggybacks on a competitive solicitation run for the University of Nebraska, a staff member said. The company will deliver and refill dispensers weekly and maintain inventory records centrally for facilities, eliminating the department-level spreadsheets currently used.
The staff member said unit costs on an annual basis are expected to be similar to current spending but that the city will gain operational efficiencies and inventory tracking. Committee Chair Alder Tierney moved the measure; Alder Henke seconded. The motion passed on a voice vote with all members present saying “aye.”
The committee discussed that the city’s procurement policy allows cooperative purchasing where the original procurement was competitive. No dollar change to the budget was reported at the meeting; staff said prices in the proposal were consistent with prevailing rates for janitorial supplies.
The committee did not raise objections at the meeting and directed staff to proceed under the stated cooperative-purchase authority.
The contract will next be processed through normal administrative channels for execution and implementation by the city’s facilities group.
