The amendment was seconded and passed by roll call.
After the amendment passed, Member Desart moved to adopt the county’s 2025 state legislative program as amended. The board approved the resolution by roll call.
Proponents said the amendment balanced specific gun-related policy language with broader accountability tools and additional judicial discretion; opponents questioned singling out firearms in the text, arguing that enforcement and judicial discretion should apply broadly to serious lawbreakers. Member Gallosse said the second sentence of the amendment was designed to address that latter concern and that the county state's attorney had assisted in drafting the language.
The adopted resolution will be forwarded as the county’s official state legislative priorities for 2025.
