County seeks $78,096 contract to replace failing security and fire systems at Waste & Recovery Center

Thurston County Public Works staff presented a proposed contract Jan. 14 to replace failing fire and security systems at the county Waste and Recovery Center. Assistant Public Works Director Karen Reese said obsolete systems have produced false alarms and reduced confidence in panic-button and other safety functions; replacement will improve staff safety and reduce unnecessary emergency responses.
The county ran a competitive solicitation through the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services and received two proposals. Staff recommended Everon LLC as the vendor and asked the board to approve a contract for $78,096.13 to replace the systems. No formal vote was taken during the agenda-setting session; staff indicated the contract will be brought forward for approval.
Commissioners complimented on-site staff for customer service at the facility when a commissioner described a recent visit. Public Works said the replacement is part of a broader capital program to update aging solid-waste facilities.
