Board approves $811,721 paving contract for transportation and parking projects

The Northville Public Schools Board of Education voted Jan. 10 to authorize administration to award paving contracts in an amount not to exceed $811,721, funded through the district’s 2023 bond.
Board member Miss Stewart moved the motion and Miss Meyer seconded. The motion authorized the administration to proceed “as outlined in the Jan. 10, 2025 OCC construction memo,” and passed during the meeting without recorded opposition.
A district staff member explained that the work completes previously phased repairs to the transportation facility and surrounding parking areas and drive lanes. The speaker said the board would normally review construction contracts at a facilities or accounts meeting first but that timing and the desire to get contractors under contract motivated bringing the recommendation straight to the board so the project could proceed.
Meeting backup materials and staff remarks indicated the contract completes earlier bond-funded phases, including a completed phase for the drive from Eight Mile to the transportation facility; the current award finishes the remaining portion of the lot and the drive to TAV. Staff also said one bidder previously designated as low requested to be excused for a mathematical bid error and that the district’s evaluation process then considered the next responsive bidders prior to bringing the award to the board.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the bid evaluation and thanked staff for detailed backup. The board’s action authorized award and directed the administration to execute the contracts as presented.
