Student council reports volunteers raised $5,100 for Adopt-a-Family, collected over 4,700 food items

Student council leaders at Groveport Madison presented a recap of volunteer and fundraising activities the group ran during the school year, telling the board they collected thousands of nonperishable food items and raised money for Adopt-a-Family.
Student Council President Jayla Clark said volunteers organized a homecoming themed event, a Thanksgiving food drive and a districtwide Adopt-a-Family drive. Presenters said the district collected approximately 4,741 nonperishable food items (one slide indicated “this is only one third of what’s shown”) and that the Koosarra campus donated more than 230 items. A coin-drive contest (``change war'') raised $1,141.40 for student council; one classroom organized additional outreach that brought in about $1,700. In total student council reported raising $2,538.18 and matching that donation to supply a grand total of $5,100 to Adopt-a-Family. Students and volunteers then spent a day shopping at Meijer for gifts, clothing and food.
Student presenters said the Adopt-a-Family effort supported 104 families and assisted 304 children; the council also described upcoming events including Valentine’s candy-grams (priced at about $1–$2), prom assistance, Champions Day volunteer support and graduation activities.
Board members praised the students’ work and thanked them for community service; one board member noted student liaison responsibilities and the district’s reliance on student council for support at human-needs events.
