The Winnsboro City Council approved routine consent business and unanimously appointed Christy Amason to the Main Street Board during its meeting.
Christy Amason introduced herself at the podium: “for those of you who don't know me, my name is Christy Amason. I work at the Chamber right now. I'm a retired educator of of 31 years, and when I got finished with that, I decided didn't wanna stay at home until I the chamber heard me.” After a motion and second, the council voted to place her on the Main Street Board.
On a separate agenda item, Finance Director Tanya explained the city was approached about moving pooled municipal cash to a government money‑market account offering higher yields (staff cited a government investment pool named Techstar). Tanya said Broadstreet Bank offered to keep the funds in a local checking account but adjust the account’s rate monthly to match the higher institutional rate, producing roughly $50,000 more in annual interest for the pooled cash account. The finance director recommended keeping the funds local while continuing work on a formal investment/budget policy to guide future moves.
A councilmember moved to “authorize the finance director to keep the general funds in the highest interest account.” After discussion about timing for a formal policy and pending training for staff, the motion passed unanimously.
The council also approved other consent items announced at the meeting; no members opposed the consent vote.
