SAN ANGELO, Texas — San Angelo Independent School District trustees received a facilities and long‑range planning update and were asked to consider consolidating elementary campuses to reduce operating costs, account for years of declining enrollment and address aging buildings.
Dr. Moran, who identified himself to the board as the district official hired to steward public funds, told trustees the district is considering closing three elementary schools by fall 2027 to reduce the number of elementary campuses from 15 to 12 and to lower per‑student operating costs. "As a taxpayer in the district and the individual that the board has hired to ensure stewardship of public funds and resources and to be accountable to you, the board of trustees, I report to you that the current number of elementary campuses is not sustainable," Dr. Moran said.
