Solid-waste staff report year-end recycling gains; court renews recycler permits and sets free dump days

Logan County solid-waste staff presented year-end metrics and permit renewals to the Fiscal Court on Jan. 9 and the court approved three recycler permits and one waste-hauler permit.

Solid-waste supervisor Nathan reported year-end totals including about 153 tons of cardboard and roughly 167 total tons processed at the county recycling center for 2024, an increase over 2023. He thanked inmate crews and volunteers who support cleanup efforts and noted nearly 400 miles of roadside pickups and more than 4,000 bags collected during community cleanups in the prior year. Nathan recommended renewal for 3 recycler permits (Morgan's Recycling, Cumberland Scrap, and American Sustainable Pallets in Russellville) and a waste-hauler permit for Just Go Green Recycling; the court approved the renewals by roll call.

Judge Baker announced two county free-dump days rescheduled after snow: Jan. 18 and Jan. 25, with locations and limitations noted (transfer station at 55 Pleasant View Drive in Auburn; items accepted include trash, furniture and electronics but not tires, freon appliances with unrecovered refrigerant, undried paint, hazardous chemicals or car batteries). The clerk's office will have Saturday vehicle-business hours on Jan. 25, and a food pantry distribution also was announced for that date.

No fiscal appropriations were made at the meeting specifically for solid-waste operations; the court approved the permits after staff inspection and documentation.
