City staff told Greenville City Council the city has completed residential debris pickup following the recent snow event and provided a summary of volumes removed and next steps for commercial properties.
In remarks to council, City Manager Shannon Fleming said the contractor removed 413,348 cubic yards of vegetative debris, commercial haulers removed 155,720 cubic yards and city staff collected an additional 14,421 cubic yards, for a combined total of 427,789 cubic yards. Fleming said she was "fairly confident that we are the first in state that have completed this spelling" (remarks as recorded) and invited residents who still have debris to contact public works for assistance. Fleming also said the city has restored a temporary drop-off site on Airport Road and will coordinate remaining commercial property pickups with codes enforcement and public works.
Council members and the mayor praised staff for their response and for earlier preparations, including pre-storm staging and road preparations. Council noted the debris total is substantially higher than prior events the city has experienced and said staff will present the city's debris-management timeline at the February retreat for further review.
The city said residential pickup is complete; staff advised any remaining household debris reporters to contact public works. Commercial pickups remain pending and will be coordinated separately.
