Mayor William S. Cogswell on Jan. 14 issued a proclamation naming Jan. 14, 2025, “Edward Jones Day,” recognizing Edward Jones’s work with youth sports, senior services and neighborhood programs on the east side of Charleston.
The proclamation, read in council chambers, cited Jones’s years of service with the city's recreation department, his co‑founding of the Concerned Citizens of Peninsula Lowcountry nonprofit, the Philip Simmons Basketball League at Mall Park, summer camp programs at Martin Park, monthly community meals and seasonal toy and food distributions, and advocacy on behalf of students and senior residents.
Edward Jones accepted the proclamation at the podium and thanked the mayor, council and city staff. In remarks he described ongoing outreach efforts — including feeding programs, summer camps and neighborhood support — and noted recent health issues he has been recovering from. He also introduced family members who joined him in the chamber.
The proclamation was presented without objection and was entered into the meeting record.
