Council approves Shore Beach Services rental locations for 2025 season; staff to protect private accesses and add warning system

Town staff presented Shore Beach Services' proposed beach rental locations for the 2025 season and the council approved the map and quantities on Jan. 14.
Sean Cohen explained the locations and said the total inventory of umbrellas, cabanas and chairs remains unchanged; the proposal moved four umbrellas/cabanas and six chairs from one Barrington-area site to Hampton and moved six umbrellas/cabanas from Tower Beach to Sea Pines Beach Club. The town's beach operations team and Shore Beach Services indicated the changes would not increase the total number of rental units on the beach.
Councilmembers directed staff and the franchise operator to ensure rental setups do not block private beach entrances. Councilmember Tamara Becker said: "I do wanna make sure that private beach entrances and other entrances onto the beach... are kept free of chairs and umbrellas." Facilities staff also said a new beach warning system is being developed and should be in place by the start of the season.
A motion to adopt the proposed rental locations passed unanimously, 7-0. The town will incorporate the updated locations into seasonal operations and monitor to ensure compliance with access and safety guidance.
