Board hears Planning Commission applicants, reappoints two members to Board of Adjustment and adds two new members

Garfield County commissioners conducted interviews on Jan. 13 for openings on the Planning Commission and acted on vacancies for the Board of Adjustment.
Planning Commission interviews Staff explained three current members were up for reappointment and two outside applicants had submitted letters of interest. Applicants who appeared during the meeting included Gretchen Greenwood (licensed Colorado architect with land‑use experience) and Steve Kyle (longtime resident and current Planning Commission member seeking reappointment). Colin/“Cole” Berger called in by phone and expressed interest in reappointment as an associate member. County staff told the board that deliberation and final appointments could be made at the Jan. 20 meeting to ensure a full commission is in place for a major hearing later in the month. The board did not make final Planning Commission appointments on Jan. 13.
Board of Adjustment appointments The board moved to reappoint Daniel Adams and Russell Talbot to the Board of Adjustment for three‑year terms and to appoint Chuck Burley and Adolfo Gora to fill other vacancies. The motions were moved and seconded and passed by unanimous voice vote. Staff noted Brad Jordan, long‑time Board of Adjustment chair, had resigned; with that resignation there were additional vacancies and staff will promote one associate member to a regular seat per bylaws and availability.
County staff asked the fair board and the Board of Adjustment to consider bylaw language that would allow boards to select their own officers without coming to the BOCC each year; staff said that change could be incorporated during the bylaw review process.
