Garfield County appoints Phil Vaughn to Federal Mineral Lease board seat

The move came after commissioners said they were impressed by both candidates who applied. Commissioner Jankowski recommended Vaughn, citing his “20 plus years of service” and experience as planning and zoning chair. Commissioner Samson seconded the motion and the board voted in favor.
Vaughn’s term was stated in the meeting as running from Jan. 15, 2025, to Jan. 15, 2028. Commissioners said staff would notify Vaughn and the board chair of the appointment and provide orientation on the appointee’s obligations.
The appointment was handled as part of the board’s action items and was moved and seconded in open session; the vote was recorded as unanimous.
Fred (staff) was directed to contact Vaughn and the Federal Mineral Lease board chair to complete onboarding and to confirm schedule and responsibilities.
The board moved on to the next agenda item after the formal vote.
