County IT delays website launch to add permitting component, plans ADA compliance work and staff expansion

Chaffee County’s IT director briefed commissioners on the county website, accessibility compliance and staffing on Jan. 9, saying the new site is near launch but paused to integrate a permitting component heavily used by contractors and the building department.
Website and permitting: The IT director said a missing permitting-related component was found late in testing and that the implementation team prioritized adding it before going live to avoid disrupting contractors and permit users. He said progress on that element is close and that the launch will follow once the component is functioning.
ADA compliance for ancillary sites: The director noted the July 1 compliance deadline for accessibility and that several county-affiliated sites (for example, search-and-rescue or visitor-bureau pages) will need either in-house management or assistance to meet ADA requirements. He described options: bring external sites into the county platform, use ADA-compliance widgets embedded in the platform, or handle site-specific fixes case-by-case. The director said staff will convene owners of ancillary sites to prioritize conversions and tools.
Staffing, devices and cyber security: The county plans to expand the IT department by one FTE to absorb tasks currently handled in the sheriff’s dispatch/detention technical support following a long-time employee’s retirement; the director said the fleet of older county vehicles and technology needs continue to be addressed. Cybersecurity training for staff will continue monthly with plans to add onboarding materials. The director also said the dispatch manager (long-serving employee) is retiring and that the county will absorb work she handled.
AV upgrades and continued projects: The director said audio-visual upgrades to the commission meeting room remain a 2025 priority and that other infrastructure upgrades and interdepartmental system implementations will continue into 2025.
