South Lyon to pursue $3.5 million Eagle Heights road repaving; resident meeting set for Feb. 6

City Manager Paul Zelnick and public works staff presented preliminary plans for the 2025 road improvement project in the Eagle Heights subdivision and said the work will be an asphalt replacement estimated at about $3,500,000.
Zelnick said the project will replace the entire asphalt roadway within the subdivision; the city will not perform sanitary sewer work as part of this contract. The project affects roughly 175 homes in the subdivision, and staff said they will mail letters to residents and hold a public informational meeting at 4–7 p.m. on Feb. 6.
Design work is finishing and staff will prepare a bid packet and schedule construction after spring; the project is expected to start after contractor selection and be completed within 2025. The work is described as curb-to-curb asphalt removal and replacement with limited curb repairs where damaged. Zelnick said the city will post project maps and weekly contractor updates online once construction begins.
Council members expressed concerns about traffic impacts on Mill Street during construction and asked staff to monitor peak-hour traffic and consider temporary enforcement or traffic control near bottlenecks. Staff said typical subdivision access will be maintained and that specific staging and traffic plans will be part of contractor preconstruction discussions.
No formal vote was required at the meeting; staff will return with bid dates and final contract documents.
