The Village of Hartland board approved an electrical contract on Jan. 13 to provide power and data conduit to a donated scoreboard at Nixon Park and to add a flagpole light and an outlet near the field.
Staff said the new scoreboard was donated by Heartland American Legion Post 294 and Arrowhead Youth Baseball and requires both power and a CAT5 data cable. Because the existing wiring is buried direct-bury without conduit, the project specifies two separate conduits—one for power and one for CAT5—running from the hardball canteen to the scoreboard and then to the flagpole. Staff recommended Southeast Electrical Service as the lowest qualified bidder with a proposal of $15,752.66.
A trustee asked whether the conduit diameter should be increased to allow future cable pulls for potential larger power needs (for example, carnival-type equipment). Staff said they would check conduit size and could upsize if warranted; the motion’s maker asked staff to review that detail before the work begins.
Trustees moved and seconded the award; the motion carried. Staff said the work will be scheduled to avoid disrupting the heavily used field and that the plaque and recent flagpole improvements will remain in place.
