Yolo Middle counselor invites board to fatherhood DADSS conference

"My name is Eddie Avila. I'm one of the two counselors at Yolo Middle School," Avila said. "So the reason I'm up here today is I wanna take a moment to invite you board members and, to our DADSS conference."
Avila said the conference is in its third year and will open with breakfast; doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the program runs from 9 a.m. to about noon. He described a keynote speaker, Lamar Henderson, whom he identified as "a dedicated advocate for fathers and families" and said Henderson currently serves as a family‑services supervisor in Merced County. Avila listed four concurrent workshops: one led by Juan Garcia, principal at Osborne Elementary, on family involvement in learning; a session by Newman PD officer Jose Gomez addressing online risks including social media, gaming and human trafficking; a social‑emotional learning session by Kayla Wilkinson, a mental‑health clinician from Center for Human Services who serves at Yolo Middle School; and an interactive art workshop led by Fernando Rios, a Yolo Middle School art teacher.
Avila said fathers may choose two to three workshops and that breakfast and lunch will be provided; he brought flyers to distribute to board members.
