Indigenous Association reports New Year’s celebration, resumes weekly craft nights

At the Jan. 2 Native American Commission meeting, Brandon Beatty, executive director of the Indigenous Association, reported on recent events and upcoming programming.
Beatty said the Indigenous Association held a New Year’s party two days before the meeting with an estimated 70 to 80 people in attendance. He said the group will resume its open craft nights next week, offering space and 17 sewing machines for community members to work on projects together. The craft nights generally run from about 6 p.m. until 8 or 9 p.m., and attendees sometimes stay later depending on turnout.
Beatty invited interested residents to follow the Indigenous Association’s Facebook page (listed as “Indigenous Association”) and its website, nativefm.org, for upcoming events and programming. He also thanked Whitney Johnson for her liaison work between the commission and the Indigenous Association.
