Council reports: $1M design funding for Mulberry/I‑25 interchange, behavioral health grant pool, police-chief recruitment

At the Jan. 14 Timnath Town Council meeting Council member Bill Jenkins reported several regional developments affecting Timnath residents.
Jenkins said the Northern Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization and other regional partners are active on area transportation issues; he reported that about $1,000,000 in grant money was approved for design work on a Mulberry/I‑25 interchange, an area used by Timnath residents to access Fort Collins that council members described as dangerous for pedestrians and drivers. Jenkins said the construction phase was not funded yet and could be on the order of $20 million.
He also reported he had attended the Larimer County Behavioral Health Policy Council meeting, which oversees an approximately $2.8 million annual allocation for behavioral-health grants; Jenkins said there were ongoing developments at the Longview facility but that formal announcements were pending.
Mayor Pro Tem Luke Wagner announced that Police Chief Kevin Jones intends to retire in May; the town has started the recruitment process and held a public forum prior to the council meeting. He said the town will continue public outreach as the recruitment continues and encouraged residents to provide input.
Mayor Robert Oxmacher and other councilors thanked attendees and noted other committee updates (Old Town Committee engagement with Wellington about downtown programming; town accounting team earned a GFOA Certificate of Excellence for financial reporting for the 2023 audit).
