The Collier County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday accepted a resolution from the Ave Maria Civic Association that opposes certain proposed relocation options for the Naples Municipal Airport near the Ave Maria community.
Commissioner McDaniel moved acceptance of the civic association’s resolution; the board adopted it unanimously. There were no registered public speakers on the item.
County staff noted the Naples Airport Authority had requested county assistance with its relocation site‑selection study, but commissioners said they have previously designated Commissioner Kowal as the board’s liaison and do not want to funnel county staff resources into the authority’s study. Commissioner Kowal said he had already communicated the board’s preference at Naples Airport Authority meetings and that the county’s position remains that it will not be an active partner in site selection at this time.
Commissioners said the city of Naples and the airport authority should contract and fund the technical work and outreach their study requires; county involvement, they said, should be limited to the previously agreed‑to liaison role unless the board later decides otherwise.
