Quarterly capital update: North Paulding renovation nearing completion; new elementary and multipurpose projects move toward construction

Paulding County Schools staff delivered a quarterly capital projects update at the Jan. 14 work session, reporting that several active construction projects are on schedule and that additional projects are moving from design into procurement.
Mr. Carey (quarterly report presenter) told the board North Paulding High School renovation and addition work is approaching completion with a targeted April milestone for finishing; second‑ and third‑floor interior work is nearly complete, and first‑floor finish work was expected by the end of January. Additions at Northside and Roberts elementaries were being “dried in” with block infill, brick veneer mockups and roofing underway; both additions are scheduled for completion in time for the next school year in August.
The board previously approved a GMP for renovation work at Poole Elementary; Carey said construction is expected to begin this summer with completion scheduled for the following August. Robertson Lofta Roof was retained for South Paulding High School design work; that renovation will be a multi‑summer project. Carey also presented plans for multipurpose athletic buildings to be added at several high schools (Hiram, North, South and Paulding; East already has a large field house). The multipurpose buildings procurement process is underway and staff hopes to begin construction in spring with completion targeted by December 2025.
Carey said fine‑arts upgrades across the five high‑school auditoriums — stage curtains, lighting and sound systems — are moving into procurement and planned for summer projects. He reminded the board that certain costs (architect fees, furniture, fixtures, equipment and technology) are not included in GMPs and will appear separately in the budget and procurement packages.
Moses Middle School renovation and modification work (presented by Mr. Crowder) was described in scope — new HVAC, intercoms, LED lighting, plumbing and roof upgrades, kitchen equipment, flooring and asphalt repairs — and a GMP of $7,369,713 was presented for board consideration on Jan. 28.
Ending: Staff said they will return with final contract documents and recommend dates for ribbon cuttings and other public ceremonies once legal review and procurement conclude. Project photos and the full quarterly report are posted on the district capital projects page.
