The Yelm City Council confirmed several mayoral appointments and council nominations at its Jan. 14 meeting, approving members to advisory committees and commissions by voice vote.
Appointments approved at the meeting include William Rex and Robert Mendel to the Police Advisory Committee; Karen Connolly to the Arts Commission; Jennifer LeMond to the Yelm Salary Commission; Steve Harshfield to the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee; and Dana Allen to the Planning Commission.
Council member Hess moved to appoint William Rex to the Police Advisory Committee; the motion was seconded and carried after a voice vote in which one councilor recorded a nay. "All those in favor, say aye," the mayor asked; the motion carried after vocal responses and a single "nay." The record did not include a roll-call tally for who voted yes other than the one recorded "nay."
Subsequent appointments — Robert Mendel to the Police Advisory Committee; Karen Connolly to the Arts Commission; Jennifer LeMond to the Salary Commission; Steve Harshfield to the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee; and Dana Allen to the Planning Commission — were each moved and seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded roll-call tallies in the meeting record.
Council members did not attach conditions to the confirmations, and staff said appointees would be notified in the following days.
