Councilmember Rami Rink presented a proclamation at the Jan. 13 City Council briefing recognizing Jan. 26, 2025 as Blaine Memorial United Methodist Church Appreciation Day and asked colleagues to affix their signatures.
Rink described the church's history, noting its origins as the Seattle Japanese Methodist Episcopal Church, its role serving Japanese-American families during wartime internment and redlining-era relocation, and ongoing work addressing food insecurity and community services. Rink said the church has provided roughly 120 years of community service and invited colleagues to the Jan. 26 presentation at the church.
The clerk conducted a roll call for signatures; eight councilmembers voted to affix their signatures. The clerk announced the action and the proclamation will be presented on Jan. 26.
