New board officers elected; board approves annual business, meeting calendar and routine designations

The Papillion La Vista Community Schools Board of Education elected a slate of officers and completed routine annual business on Jan. 13.
The board elected the following officers by roll call vote: Sue Ann Witt as president, Brian Lotus as vice president, Lisa Wood as secretary and Marcus Madler as treasurer. Board member Skip Bailey made the motion for the slate and Brian Lotus seconded; the roll call vote was unanimous in favor.
The board also approved the district’s annual business items by action by consent. The authorizations approved included: authorizing the vice president to sign in the absence of the president, secretary or treasurer; authorizing the superintendent to sign for district monies; authorizing the use of a facsimile stamp; designating depositories (American National Bank; Pinnacle Bank; PFM Asset Management, LLC; U.S. Bank; and First Five Point Bank); and designating the Sarpy County Times (or other papers of general circulation) and specified posting locations (Sarpy County Court, both high schools, Papillion Public Library, La Vista Public Library and the district website) as official notification locations.
The board adopted the published 2025 meeting schedule, with regular meetings normally at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays at district headquarters (420 South Washington St.), and noted the protocol for optional fifth‑Monday meetings and holiday cancellations.
Committee and representative assignments for standing subcommittees and external organizations were announced by the superintendent for board member review. The assignments included chairs and members for Buildings, Grounds & Finance; Human Resources & Student Services; and Curriculum & Americanism, and named delegates for associations such as the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB) and other local entities; board members were asked to advise the superintendent if they preferred different assignments.
The newly elected president, Sue Ann Witt, took the chair and the meeting proceeded to reports and discussion items.
